The resonant swift of thunder had the tenebrous night sky under its contempt. It was raining cats and dogs in the state of Minnesota when the phone rang in the middle of the night.
The tires of the Ford screeched on the tree-shaded roads of Minneapolis, and the wind rumbled around the moving vehicle. As the vehicle sped, the perforated muffler tailed a sturdy sound behind it. Darrell and Cat were pressed back against their seats.
Strangely, tears didn’t stream down Darrell’s cheeks, and neither his eyes were brimmed with tears of regret. He just laid there in pain-inducing silence
“Get up now,” one of the police officers demanded. Darrell had lost a lot of blood, and his leg stopped bleeding mainly because he still had the bullet in his leg.
“I need to go to the hospital. I have been shot in my leg,” Darrell screamed at the officers who surrounded him. It had started to hurt again, and the pain had become unbearable.
“Ba, wake up!! Your phone is ringing!”
“Who is it?” Darrell asked his wife.
“It’s your cousin, TP,” replied Teaunne.
Darrell jumped up from the bed and grabbed the phone from her hand.

I bought this book for my friend initially. But I ended up reading myself. And trust me, as African American man, it has completely changed my mind and my life. Not only that, I learned to value my friend and family now.
